The leader of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), Milo Djukanovic was proposed as the prime minister-designate after Montenegrin President Filip Vujanovic held talks with parliamentary parties in Podgorica on Friday.

After the consultations, Vujanovic said that he would propose to the parliament that the strongest political party's president be the premier-designate, and he described Djukanovic as the man who would know best how to cope with challenges ahead of Montenegro in the coming period.

Ranko Krivokapic, the leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), a junior partner in the governing coalition, said that Djukanovic had long-standing political experience which was necessary for the current difficult situation.

The opposition voiced their criticism of Djukanovic.

Leaders of political parties that represent ethnic minorities, including the Croat HGI, that signed an agreement on a post-election cooperation with the DPS and the SDP, said on Thursday that they would support the DPS leader as the PM-designate.

So far, Djukanovic has been the premier of Montenegro five times in the last 20 years and he also held one term as the country's president.
