A former Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister, Damir Polancec, will be remanded in investigative custody for one more month, a Zagreb County Court judge decided on Thursday after accepting a proposal by the prosecution.
The prosecution cited a possibility for Polancec to tamper with witnesses and thus obstruct the ongoing investigation into alleged wrongdoings in the Koprivnica-based Podravka food company.
All other suspects in this case have been in the meantime released from custody.
Polancec's lawyer, Ante Nobilo, said today he would appeal the latest decision on custody extension for his client.
Polancec, who was an executive in Podravka before entering the government, was taken in the detention centre of Remetinec, Zagreb, in late March.
