The closure of negotiations on Chapter 23, which deals with judiciary and fundamental rights, will eventually be decided by politicians, while the judicial authorities as a whole will not be responsible for whether the chapter will be closed or not, Croatian Supreme Court president Branko Hrvatin said at a meeting of the Croatian Judges' Association in Zagreb on Friday.

Hrvatin said that the judges were not a factor that would delay Croatia's entry into the European Union.

"We are no better or worse than the overall situation in society, and if all other chapters have been closed, I claim that we are not, nor can we be, the factor that will obstruct Croatia along its path towards the European Union," Hrvatin said.
