The 38th international furniture, interior design and supporting industry fair Ambienta opened in Zagreb on Wednesday, bringing together 391 exhibitors from Croatia and 28 other countries, including 12 new ones.
The show was formally opened by Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor, who praised manufacturers for their successful work in time of crisis.
Kosor spoke of positive trends in the national economy, citing GDP growth in the second quarter, a 5% year-on-year rise in retail sales in the first eight months, a decline in unemployment in September, and the best tourist season yet. She also stressed the importance of foreign direct investments, adding that in the first half of the year they were twice those in the whole of 2010.
Kosor said that her government would continue creating a favourable environment for the economy and facilitating investments.
The fair closes on October 23.
