The Croatian Air Force Commander, Major General Vlado Bagaric, on Friday declined to speculate about the causes of the crash of two MiG 21 aircraft, which occurred during an exercise at a military training ground outside Slunj, about 80 kilometres south of Zagreb, on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference in Zagreb, Bagaric said that a five-member commission had been established to investigate the accident, repeating several times that he did not want to prejudge the causes of the accident.

Bagaric said that four MiGs were flying in formation and the first two crashed. He said that the MiG 21 does not have a black box as other aircraft, but a device that records flight data, expressing hope that those devices would be recovered.
