In a survey conducted by the MojPosao web portal on a sample of 1,000 respondents regarding how many Croatians intended to work abroad and when, 84 percent confirmed that they intended to search for better job opportunities outside of Croatia and 64 percent said they would leave over the next two years.
These are people who believe that there is no work opportunities for them in Croatia or that their salaries would be too low and that the general atmosphere in the country were 'depressing', showed the survey results MojPosao released earlier in this week.
Some of the jobs listed as being attractive abroad are working on cruise ships, assistant cooks or nannies. Respondents would go to Germany and Sweden, followed by Dubai, Canada and even Australia and the USA.
Around 16 percent of respondents indicated that they intended to leave Croatia within the next two to five years. These were mainly students who wanted to 'feel out' the situation in Croatia first.
A mere 4 percent of those surveyed would leave Croatia in five years' time and these were mostly people who did not have any concrete plans but they expressed their dissatisfaction with Croatia more than others.
Sixteen percent said they would not leave the country. They believe that life abroad is not as ideal as people may think and their main reasons to stay here is their closeness to family and friends.
Others said that they could not leave the country because they had young children and it was an advantage to have grandmother babysitting services.
The most interesting response came from one respondent who said he would never leave the country because he loves challenges and there is no greater challenge than to 'survive' in Croatia, the portal said.
