Šumski požar zahvatio je kanadski grad Jasper u Alberti, a to je jedan od stotine požara koji pustoše pokrajine Albertu i Britansku Kolumbiju, dok se vatrogasci bore da sačuvaju ključne objekte kao što je naftovod Trans Mountain Pipeline, objavile su vlasti.

Požari koji nekontrolirano gore diljem regije uključuju 433 požara u Britanskoj Kolumbiji i 176 u Alberti, više od desetak njih u području Fort McMurraya, središta naftnog pijeska.

Naftovod, koji može prenositi 890.000 barela nafte dnevno od Edmontona do Vancouvera, prolazi nacionalnim parkom u kanadskom Stjenjaku blizu slikovitog turističkog gradića, iz kojeg se u utorak moralo evakuirati oko 25. 000 ljudi. 

“Vatrogasci… nastoje spasiti što je moguće više građevina i zaštititi ključnu infrastrukturu, uključujući postrojenje za pročišćavanje otpadnih voda, komunikacijske objekte te Trans Mountain Pipeline”, objavila je uprava Parks Canada na Facebooku. 

Operater naftovoda ranije je rekao da sigurno upravlja naftovodom i da je kao preventivnu mjeru postavio protupožarne mlaznice.

Kanadski premijer Justin Trudeau rekao je da je njegova vlada odobrila zahtjev pokrajine Alberte za saveznu pomoć.

“Odmah raspoređujemo resurse kanadskih oružanih snaga, podršku za evakuaciju i više resursa za hitne požare u pokrajini – i koordiniramo pomoć u gašenju požara i zračnom prijevozu. Alberta, uz tebe smo”, napisao je Trudeau.

Grad i park, koji godišnje privuče više od dva milijuna turista, evakuirani su u ponedjeljak navečer, u vrijeme kada su dužnosnici procijenili da je u parku bilo 15. 000 posjetitelja.
