A former Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister, Damir Polancec, confirmed to the media on Monday evening that he had received a decision from the anti-corruption agency USKOK to discontinue an investigation into him on charges of abuse of powers and conspiring to obtain illegal gain in a case involving the light metal factory TLM from Sibenik.

Polancec explained that the discontinuation of the investigation against him referred to the said charges.

In 2010, USKOK launched a probe into the sale of electricity to the TLM on the suspicion that the state-owned power company HEP was defrauded in that case of some 600 million kuna because it sold electricity to the TLM at prices that were several times below the price at which it had bought the electricity on the international market.

Polancec spent slightly less than three months in custody due to the said investigation.
