Interior Minister Ranko Ostojic is confident that the findings of an internal inspection following a newspaper's allegations, that journalists and the chief state attorney were followed and that their phone records were monitored, will be known by Friday.

Speaking for Media Servis on Wednesday, Ostojic said that to "justify (the tailing and the monitoring) with an order from the chief state attorney and then do as you please can't be acceptable in a democratic society."

Regarding the publication of the war veterans' register, Ostojic said it was necessary to distinguish between those who had indeed been on the front lines and those who "infiltrated" the register. He said the publication would provide an opportunity to do that.

Speaking of the Interior Ministry's performance in 2012, he said the ministry discovered that "the system is infected with people who are willing to reveal professional secrets," and that despite cost-cutting, efficiency had not dropped.
