HDZ elects new leadership

Tomislav Karamarko is the new president of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), delegates decided early Monday morning, after the 15th general convention of the party which started on Sunday.

Karamarko won in a runoff in which he went head to head with Milan Kujundzic. Karamarko won 971 votes and Kujundzic 860 votes.

A total of 1845 delegates voted, 11 votes were declared void.

Drago Prgomet was elected deputy president, receiving 715 votes. Also running for the position were Ante Sanader (695 votes) and Andrej Plenkovic (581 votes).

Elected vice presidents are Bozidar Kalmeta, Dubravka Suica, Drazeb Bosnjakovic, Karmela Caparin, Bozo Galic, Damir Jelic and Marijan Coner.

Also elected were ten members of the HDZ presidency - Oleg Butkovic, Pero Cosić, Franjo Lucic , Darko Horvat, Josip Krizanić, Gordan Jandrokovic, Zeljko Turk, Antun Vidakovic, Josipa Rimac and Ana Lovrin.

HDZ delegates also elected 25 members of the party head committee, members of the High Court of Honor and the Supervisory Committee.
