Croatia's gross foreign debt totalled EUR 42.4 billion (excluding circular direct investments) at the end of February, going down by EUR 600 million from the end of 2009, the Croatian National Bank said in its latest bulletin.
Commercial banks made the largest contribution to the debt reduction, and were followed by the state. Other domestic sectors mildly increased their foreign liabilities in the relevant period.
The state's foreign debt totalled EUR 4.9 billion, going down by EUR 234.4 million from the end of last year.
The state's share in the total foreign debt was 11.6 percent at the end of February.
Commercial banks accounted for less then 25 percent of the total foreign debt. Their foreign liabilities came to EUR 10.2 billion, down EUR 500 million from the end of 2009.
Foreign liabilities of other domestic sectors (companies, non-banking financial institutions and the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development) mainly stagnated over the covered period.
Those foreign liabilities increased by EUR 7.6 million to EUR 21.4 billion.
Other domestic sectors' share in the Croatian foreign debt was 50.3 percent.
