Australian Home Affairs Minister Jason Clare on Friday adopted a decision to extradite Dragan Vasiljkovic, also known as Captain Dragan, to Croatia where he has been accused of war crimes, after Vasiljkovic failed to convince Prime Minister Jillian Gillard that he should be allowed to remain in Australia, The Australian daily reported on Friday on its website.

"Home Affairs Minister Jason Clare's decision to green-light his removal to Croatia comes two years after the High Court paved the way for Mr. Vasiljkovic - also known as Daniel Snedden and Captain Dragan - to be extradited", The Australian reports.

The extradition, requested by Croatia, of the former commander of paramilitary Serb forces in the so-called Krajina for war crimes was approved after "he failed to convince Gillard's government he should be allowed to remain in Australia."

The Croatian Justice Ministry confirmed that they were officially informed on Thursday of the decision on extradition.
