Culture Minister Bozo Biskupic denied on Thursday that he knew anything about secret bank accounts abroad, which some media say contained funds various companies had collected for the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and were used by members of the ruling party.

"I have no information about any accounts nor do I know anything. Yes, I did travel (with former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader) either as minister or as the party's international secretary," Biskupic told the press after a government meeting.

Asked to comment on media reports that Mladen Barisic, the recently arrested former head of the Customs Administration and former HDZ treasurer, had named him as the person with information about those accounts as he had travelled with Sanader, Biskupic said he did not believe that.

"I think that's speculation," Biskupic said, adding he was sure that Barisic had not mentioned him as part of the investigation into the Fimi Media case.

"I'm sure of that because my conscience is clear. I wasn't involved in any financial deals involving the party or anything. I have nothing else to say other than this is an insinuation."

Biskupic said he would say the same thing if he were summoned to testify in the case.
