Labour and Pension System Minister Mirando Mrsic and chief executive of the Croatian Employers' Association (HUP) Davor Majetic on Tuesday signed an agreement on cooperation in promoting measures of an active employment policy which is aimed at helping employers preserve existing and create new jobs.

Last year active employment policy measures helped employ 42,000 people, which is the highest number of people so far, and this year the Labour Ministry expects a further increase of the number of employed which is why it increased funds earmarked for this purpose by 24 percent to HRK 450 million, Mrsic said.

Given that as much as 86 per cent of new jobs were being created by small and medium size enterprises, most of the measures are aimed at the SME sector, the minister said.
