The Minister for War Veterans' Affairs, Predrag Matic, has said that the register of the Homeland Defence War veterans will be made public after an appropriate legislative framework is made.
Commenting on criticisms that the publication of the register would be in violation of laws and the Constitution, Matic told reporters after the government's session on Thursday that he knew that under the existing legislation making the registry available to the public was not possible.
We known that the current legislation makes it impossible. Therefore we have not said that we will do it tomorrow morning. We will make some thorough preparations and once we have made the necessary preparations we will carry out our plan. Thus, during the four-year term of the Kukuriku coalition government the war veterans' register will be made public," the minister said.
He said that once the legislative changes made it possible for the register to be made public, the government would do it "in an absolutely painless manner for all veterans".
