Police in Bugojno have arrested three persons on suspicion of a bomb attack in the southern Bosnian town and are still searching for another suspect, the Central Bosnia Canton Interior Ministry said on Sunday.

Minister Sedzad Milanovic confirmed reports carried by local media earlier today that one of the suspects was Haris Causevic, who has a criminal record.

According to unofficial reports, Causevic is linked to radical Islamist groups.

Apart from local police, the attack on the Bugojno police station is being investigated by the Interior Ministry of the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina - the country's Croat-Muslim entity - and by the Investigation and Protection Agency. Everything is being coordinated by the State Prosecutor's Office.

One police officer was killed and six were wounded in the attack earlier today. Gravely injured officer Edina Hinic, 26, has been hospitalised in Sarajevo.

Bosnian Security Minister Sadik Ahmetovic said the assault was a terrorist act and announced that resolute measures would be taken to prevent something like this from reoccurring.

Bosnian Presidency chairman Haris Silajdzic condemned the attack, demanding a swift investigation and that the State Prosecutor's Office try the perpetrators as soon as possible.

Virtually all major political parties in the country condemned the attack.
