Following the Croatian Football Federation (HNS) assembly, held Thursday in the Zagreb Sheraton, the chief opponent of the reigning HNS President Vlatko Markovic, Igor Stimac opened up to the media

The assemblies of the most powerful people in Croatian football seem to attract more public attention football league games – perhaps even than the national team.

Unfortunately, this is Croatian reality, and this latest assembly was no different as the gathering of Markovic’s supporters attracted immense public interest.

Assembly participants did not fail to amuse with their statements either, as HNS head Markovic called his opponents (whom the HNS suspended from all official football duties for two years) ‘pathetic’, while NK Dinamo Zagreb executive vice president and de facto capo di tutti capi Zdravko Mamic blamed the poor state of Croatian football on the media.

And now the head of the maverick HNS officials, Igor Stimac has opened up to the media.

‘I heard everything that went on [at the assembly]. It was just like the Muppet Show. [HNS] president Markovic doesn’t even know that Grozny is in Chechenya and not in Georgia. And then he calls people who don’t think like him pathetic!? What more do I need to say? Nothing they say, not even gaffs like this, can surprise me anymore,” Stimac told the Slobodna Dalmacija daily newspaper and added that he is still waiting on a ruling from the Ministry of Administration from which he is expecting to declare the December assembly invalid.
