The Osijek County Prosecutor's Office said in a statement on Tuesday there were no grounds for the criminal prosecution of Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS) leader Vojislav Stanimirovic for his role in the 1991-1995 Homeland War, namely the ill-treatment of civilians in a warehouse in the eastern town of Vukovar in 1991.

Stanimirovic has been interviewed and other investigative measures have been taken, but after analysing the information and documents gathered, the County Prosecutor's Office has found no grounds for further action. Based on the evidence established, including witness accounts, it has been found that there are no grounds for suspicion of Stanimirovic's criminal responsibility, the statement said.

Following public statements made by women who had been raped during the war, the County Prosecutor's Office said it was continuing investigations to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
