The chairman of the Parliament's Committee on European Integration, Neven Mimica of the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP), said in Zagreb on Tuesday that the transformation of society, economy and politics would continue after Croatia joined the European Union, which he said the opposition considered very important, while the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and its partners in the ruling coalition placed emphasis solely on the external form of EU membership.
"For us, the process does not stop with admission to the EU, which is not what the ruling coalition thinks. We view the entire process as one of transformation, as a change of Croatia from the inside, and I fear that the HDZ's approach is solely related to form, to satisfying the form of accession," Mimica said at a round table debate organised by the Croatian People's Party (HNS) Political Academy.
Mimica called the HDZ's approach "a trophy approach".
