Croatian Justice Minister Drazen Bosnjakovic said on Tuesday evening that the ruling Croatian Democratic Union had gained a lot with Minister of the Interior Tomislav Karamarko joining it, and noted that the HDZ was exposed to a "media lynching campaign".
In an interview in Croatian Television's late night news broadcast, Bosnjakovic said that after having worked as a member of the government for a while, Karamarko had obviously concluded that the HDZ was a party that was good enough for him to join.
Asked if the HDZ was waging a lynching campaign against former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader by levelling "all kinds of accusations against him, notably ones regarding slush funds", Bosnjakovic said that independent bodies were conducting an investigation into Sanader.
"In that regard, there is no way the party could wage any lynching campaign. But when I look at media reports today, I would say that it is we who are subjected to a media lynching campaign."
Commenting on the leaking of information on investigations to the media, Bosnjakovic said it was difficult to say who was delivering such information to journalists, adding that prosecutorial authorities and the police should investigate the matter.
