Former Foreign Minister Gordan Jandrokovic of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) said on Thursday that the latest statements by those in power show that the government could be prepared to drop the lawsuits in the Ljubljanska Banka case, stressing that this would be a bad move because Croatia's interests in the dispute with Slovenia should be defended by a quality and more active diplomacy.
"It is good that the government started dealing with EU-related issues in a more serious manner, as several months have gone by and we missed the opportunity to find a solution with Slovenia," Jandrokovic told reporters in the Croatian Parliament.
Asked if withdrawing the lawsuits would be the best solution for Croatia to become an EU member state on 1 July, Jandrokovic said alternative solutions were being mentioned but that the government was not being specific which solutions those were.
