The leader of the Croatian Party of Rights Dr. Ante Starcevic (HSP AS), Ruza Tomasic, who is one of the first 12 Croatian members of the European Parliament, stated on Thursday that she would not attend Croatia's EU entry main ceremonies in Zagreb on Sunday.
Tomasic said that Croatians were still uninformed of what they might expect of their country's membership in the Union, which she cited as one of the reasons for her non-attendance of the main ceremony to be organised by the Croatian government.
She also believes that these times of crisis are not proper for "splendid festivities".
As for the non-arrival of German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the Zagreb ceremony, Tomasic described such developments as "a diplomatic fiasco" of the current Croatian government.
"This diplomatic fiasco could probably have been avoided had the government invested the same amount of effort to welcome Chancellor Merkel as it has invested into making sure that the Chetnik Duke will come, although he has never been and will never be a friend of Croatia," reads an HSP AS press release, alluding to the planned arrival of Serbia's President Tomislav Nikolic at Sunday's events in Zagreb.
Tomasic said that she would be among the crowds in the main Zagreb square during the formal ceremonies.
