The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) on Friday sent to the State Election Commission a letter warning that the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the Croatian People's Party (HNS), the Istrian Democratic Party (IDS) and the Croatian Pensioners' Party (HSU) were in violation with the law as they started putting up election billboards in Zagreb before the official election campaign was launched, adding that they started campaigning under the unregistered name of "Kukuriku coalition" and asking that such campaign be banned.

"The entire Croatian public is very well aware of the fact that the official election campaign for the coming parliamentary elections has not started yet. It is also known that the law prohibits all campaign-related activities before the formal launching of the official election campaign. Despite very clear legal regulations .... the billboards of the so-called Kukuriku coalition have been put up at several locations in Zagreb".

The HDZ asked DIP to urgently ban this form of election campaign.
