GDP in Q2 2012 down 2.1 pct

Croatia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Q2 2012 went down 2.1% compared to the same period the year before, which is a lower contraction that originally expected.

The Central Bureau of Statistics on Friday released the first gross domestic product estimate for the second quarter, according to which GDP went down 2.1% which indicates further deepening of the recession, given that in Q1 the economy contracted 1.3% on the year,

The in the Q2 is the biggest one since Q" 2010 when GDP went down 2.5%.

Eight macroeconomists polled by Hina news agency predicted the economy in Q2 would contract 2.3% on the year. All expected a downturn ranging from two to 2.9%.

Croatia's economy has been in recession since early 2009.
