The world theatre festival which will be held from September 10 to October 5 will bring several well-known directors to Zagreb, organisers told a press conference adding that on the eve of the festival a film of a theatre production of "Hamlet in Palestine" by Thomas Ostermeier will be screened.

Other productions to be to be seen during the festival include "Death in Venice/Songs for dead children" to be performed by the Berlin Schaubuehne am Lehniner Platz theatre which will open the festival at the Croatian National Theatre on September 10.

A newcomer to this festival is the British Forced Entertainment company, a pioneer in Avant Guard British theatre.

This year's festival will present various perspectives by directors as there has not been a common thread in the European theatre for some time and we are searching for new forms and our attempts are very interesting, the press conference heard.

Despite the unfavourable financial situation and with the budget we had we have nevertheless managed to attract some of the most important names in theatre to come to Zagreb but they have already been here and value our Zagreb audiences, the organisers said.

The festival is being financed by the City of Zagreb with a little over HRK 1 million and the Ministry of Culture has contributed HRK 200,000.
