The Church has a right to its opinion on any matter including the topic of health education while it is the duty of the state to ensure school children receive knowledge based on scientific facts, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Social Welfare Policy and Youth Milanka Opacic said on Thursday, adding that discussion with the Church "is a welcome exchange of arguments and opinions".

"Health education should be introduced in schools as the situation amongst youth is quite bad. Children do not know a great deal and parents do not talk to them for various reasons. I believe that it is important to explain some things to children and that they should be taught how to approach sexual relationships responsibly", she told journalists.

She cautioned that there was a growing number of infertile couples because of sexually transmitted illnesses and that this can be prevented if children were informed that they should not approach sexual relations irresponsibly.

Asked to comment on the Church's attitude she said that "any discussion that leads to an improvement is welcome".
