Hague war crimes tribunal indictee Goran Hadzic, who was arrested on Wednesday morning, was questioned in the afternoon by a judge of the Belgrade High Court's war crimes department, after which it was established that all conditions for his transfer to The Hague had been met.

Hadzic was questioned with his lawyer Toma Fila present. Fila told the press later that the investigating judge found that all conditions for Hadzic's transfer to the UN court had been met.

Fila said Hadzic was presented with the indictment and that he said he understood it but did not comment on the charges. The attorney added that the extradition decision would not be appealed.

Fila said Hadzic spent most of the time he was in hiding abroad and that it was up to the authorities to establish where and how. He added that Hadzic was not armed at the time of the arrest and that he had no identification on him.

Hadzic may appeal the extradition decision within the next three days and, if an appeal is filed, a three-member panel of judges has three days to rule on it.

An extradition order is signed by the Serbian justice minister.

Serbia's deputy war crimes prosecutor Bruno Vekaric said that in line with the law, they would wait for the three days within which an appeal could be filed to pass and that they expected the transfer to be carried out promptly.

Upon his arrest, Hadzic was placed in the custody of the Belgrade High Court, where family are expected to visit him over the next few days.
