European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk have sent a letter to Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor inviting her to Brussels to attend a ceremony at which Croatia's Treaty of Accession to the European Union will be signed on December 9, the government's public relations office said.

The European Council officially confirmed on Monday that the Treaty of Accession with Croatia would be signed just before a meeting of the European Council in Brussels on December 9.

The treaty will be signed by Croatia's President Ivo Josipovic, Prime Minister Kosor and leaders of the 27 EU member-countries. After the signing, Croatia will attend the meeting of the European Council as an observer.

In the period from the signing of the treaty to Croatia's EU entry, scheduled for 1 July 2013, Croatian representatives will participate in the work of European institutions as observers. They will be allowed to take part in debates, but not to vote.
