Croatia's Sports Minister, Zeljko Jovanovic, on Wednesday reiterated that he regarded the top officials of the Croatian Football Federation (HNS) responsible for the current situation in Croatian football and that they should tender their resignations.
"At (a recent) meeting in the ministry, (my assistant) Petar Skansi and I told the HNS leadership that in our opinion and according to the HNS rule book, they are responsible for the situation in Croatian football and if they are unable to offer a meaningful solution, they should offer their resignations, not to me as the minister but to the HNS assembly. The HNS Assembly members should decide whether people with no sense of their own responsibility for the collapse of Croatia's football should continue managing the Croatian football organisation," the minister said on the margins of an innovations conference in Zagreb on Wednesday.
Asked about statements that the Union of the European Football Associations (UEFA) representatives were coming to help the HNS, the Croatian minister said he was pleased with that.
"I am very glad if UEFA is following what is going on in Croatia as it can see that there is no political interference in football," he added.
