Commenting on the ruling coalition's decision to hold parliamentary elections on 4 December, President Ivo Josipovic said that as head of state he would decide if elections would indeed be held on that date once the present Parliament was dissolved, but stressed that the date was acceptable to him.

"Of course I will hold another round of consultations with the government, but also with the opposition parties," Josipovic said. "Generally speaking, it is good that the ruling coalition has given a tentative date and that Prime Minister (Jadranka Kosor) kept her promise that the election date would be announced by summer and that the elections would be held this calendar year," the president said.

"Generally speaking, this date looks acceptable to me, but I need to point out things that concern me -- how to organise the calender to have the elections separated from the referendum (on Croatia's EU entry)," Josipovic said.
