Public Administration Minister Arsen Bauk informed the government on Thursday that a sufficient number of signatures had been collected for a referendum proposed by the civil initiative "In the Name of the Family", which wants marriage to be defined in the constitution as the union of a man and a woman.

The signatures were verified on a random sample of 22,322 out of the 762,816 signatures collected in 512 books, and of those 20,005 were found correct and 2,317 incorrect. The sample check put the number of authentic signatures between 666,995 and 701,902, Bauk said.

The government will send the report to Parliament for consideration.
