The Croatian People's Party (HNS) leader Radimir Cacic, who is the First Deputy Prime Minister, has said that the fundamental task of the government is growth and job creation and the protection of the most vulnerable groups in the society.

The key lies in investments, we will seek private capital, take over responsibility for defining projects, Cacic said at an election convention of his party's youth organisation in Zagreb on Saturday.

In this context he mentioned a possibility of mega-projects for Zagreb making use of its location on the Sava river and Osijek making use of its location on the Drava river.

"The biggest responsibility for the preparation, definition and implementation of those projects lies with ministries filled by the HNS staff," Cacic said adding that he was sure that the HNS would pass this test.

Croatia's imports are twice as high as its exports, production is currently 80% of the production in 1990, Cacic said adding that these were signs of how much successful the previous governments had been.

He said that everything must be changed for better.

As for the HNS activities in the governing coalition run by the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Cacic said that the HNS, in cooperation with its partners, was trying to reach synergy and joint results.
