The European Commission has taken note of the judgment by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) concerning the defunct Slovenian bank Ljubljanska Banka, European Commission spokesman Peter Stano said in Brussels on Thursday.

We have taken note of the recent judgment by the European Court of Human Rights regarding the Ljubljanska Banka issue. In that regard we see that both parties are involved in the search for a mutually acceptable solution and we encourage Slovenia and Croatia to find a solution that will be acceptable to both countries, Stano said when asked about the Commission's position on the court judgment.

Stano said that the European Commission could not comment on different interpretations of negotiations between the financial experts of the two countries who are seeking a solution to the transferred foreign-currency savings of Croatian clients in Ljubljanska Banka.

The ECHR ruled on Tuesday that Slovenia was liable to pay back so-called "old" foreign-currency savings to clients of Ljubljanska Banka's branches outside Slovenia.
