Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said on Sunday that the focus of the Austrian investigation of operations of Hypo Alpe Adria Bank was primarily on Croatia, but added that checks would be made for any irregularities in Serbia, electronic media in Belgrade said.

Dacic was speaking to reporters after returning from a two-day visit to Salzburg where he had discussed the Austrian police investigation with the chief of the criminal investigation police, Franz Lang.

"We will fully investigate what they have found, but according to them the focus of the investigation is on Croatia," Dacic was quoted as saying. He added that the police would help shed light on any irregularities in Serbia.

The Austrian police have been investigating for a while the operations of Hypo Alpe Adria Bank, which has been involved in several scandals in Austria, Germany and Southeast European countries, including Croatia. One of the bank's former directors, Wolfgang Kulterer, is in custody.
