Situation still serious in flood-hit Metkovic area

A total of 160 houses were flooded in the village of Komin on the right bank of the Neretva river, near the southern Croatian seaport of Ploce, the Croatian protection and rescue service DUZS reported on Friday morning.

The situation is still very serious in the town of Metkovic hit by floods due the record high level of the Neretva river. Dozens of houses in the nearby town of Opuzen were also flooded.

Residents have been advised to drink water only from the public water system.

The D9 state road, the border crossings of Doljani and Gabela Polje between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as the Mali Prolog-Kula Norinska section of the D62 road are closed due to this natural disaster.

High tidal waves flooded some residential areas in the region of Sibenik on Friday morning.

Eight houses in Gospic and a road in Kosinj in the region of Lika are also flooded.

Heavy rain caused a landslide in the Istrian village of Juradei above Butoniga Lake and there is a possibility for several auxiliary farm buildings to collapse.
