The chair of the National Committee monitoring Croatia's European Union entry talks, Vesna Pusic, said on Wednesday the corruption case involving former Deputy Prime Minister Damir Polancec could not be cleared up unless former PM Ivo Sanader was investigated as well.

Investigations into corruption cases have reached the level of a deputy PM "and there is only one higher level, the former PM," Pusic said in Vukovar.

"It's very important for Croatia that these cases be investigated. I don't expect that to transform injustice into justice, but at least it will be sufficiently intimidating and prevent such behaviour," she said before giving a talk on civil society.
