Croatian President Ivo Josipovic has said that he is preparing some initiatives based on dialogue which will address the issue of bilingual signs in Vukovar and that he believes that it is possible to see to it that the Serb minority exercises its right to use its mother tongue alongside respecting war traumas in that eastern Croatian town.

Josipovic said in an interview published by the Jutarnji List daily on Monday that the erection of dual-alphabet signs lacked dialogue involving all interested parties in efforts to enforce the relevant legislation.

He says he is hopeful of agreement on models and a pace of the implementation of the legislation on Cyrillic signs on public institutions in Vukovar.

Asked about how to settle Croatia's dispute with the European Commission relating to the implementation of the European Arrest Warrant, the Croatian head of state that "it is very simple".

"Simply, the contentious provision on the time limit for the application of the arrest warrant should be immediately amended," he said. He also supported activities aimed at ensuring equality for Croatian citizens in the European Union and also called for punishment of every crime in Croatia, regardless of its possible political background, warning against the abuse of justice.
