Commenting on Croatian National Bank (HNB) Governor Zeljko Rohatinski leaving his post, Croatian President Ivo Josipovic said in the eastern town of Vukovar on Tuesday that Rohatinski had a great reputation, but that the government had clearly assessed that the country needed a change in the monetary policy.

"This is a legitimate decision of the government and I would like to use this opportunity to congratulate Governor Rohatinski on his devoted work," Josipovic said.

Asked if it was appropriate to let the man who has been at the helm of the central bank for 12 years know that his term would not be extended over the phone, Josipovic said he was not familiar with the details therefore he could not comment on it.

He also expressed conviction that Deputy Governor Boris Vujcic, should he be appointed new government, would do a great job.
