Zagreb police said on Thursday that during tonight's anti-government demonstration in the city centre, the demonstrators clashed with the police, throwing bottles, construction material and a traffic sign, adding that 11 persons were taken into custody and that at the moment they did not know if any officers or demonstrators were injured.

The demonstration was held in streets leading to St. Mark's Square, where the government and parliament are headquartered, because police stopped the demonstrators and prevented them from protesting in the square.

The protest was organised by the Alliance for Change demanding that the government step down. It was initiated by Ivan Pernar on Facebook. He was taken into custody after jumping a protection barrier.

Police said they used tear gas to fight off the attack.

The demonstrators set fire to three garbage containers.
