Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic on Wednesday said that he could not currently confirm the information that First Deputy Prime Minister Radimir Cacic was sentenced in an Hungarian Court to imprisonment.

Milanovic was responding to a question put to him by Labour MP Branko Vuksic regarding the government's intentions now that Cacic is required to "start the prison sentence within 1-2 months".

"I also saw the news but at the moment I cannot confirm it, so any answer to your question would be hypothetical", said Milanovic.

"At the moment everything remains as the first deputy prime minister had explained earlier," he added.

The county court in the Hungarian city of in Kaposvar on Wednesday sentenced Croatia's first deputy prime minister to one year and ten months in prison, the Hungarian MTI and Reuters news agencies reported.

According to the Hungarian news agency the court partially amended the lower court's decision, omitting a 3-year suspension on probation.

Based on information by a court spokesman Reuters reports that the ruling is not open to appeal and Cacic will need to start his sentence probably in 1-2 months.
