Representatives of the Pican municipality on Thursday filed a suit at the Labin Municipal Court against the Rockwool Adriatic company for "polluting water and air as well as endangering the lives of people in the area".

"It's high time something was done for these as well as neighbouring municipalities," said municipal official Anton Bazon.

A dozen Pican residents gathered in front of the court in support of the suit. They feel they are suffering daily because of emissions from the factory.

In the suit, the Pican municipality asks that Rockwool be ordered to stop polluting the environment and endangering people's health, not to release harmful substances and to regulate emissions, "to which the factory has committed earlier". The plaintiff also asks that Rockwool pay HRK 15 million (EUR 2 million) in damages that will be invested in the construction of the municipal waterworks.
