All parliamentary parties on Tuesday supported the plan to amend the 2005 declaration on fundamental principles for Croatia's accession negotiations with the European Union so that a referendum on Croatia's EU could be held after the signing of the Croatia-EU accession treaty.

During today's debate, MPs, however, wondered whether it was necessary to set a 30-day deadline for organising the referendum after the signing of the treaty.

Presenting the draft amendments, Foreign Minister Gordan Jandrokovic recalled that the government had proposed that the referendum be held within 30 days of the signing of the accession treaty.

The government believes that citizens will be better informed about the matter after the completion of the membership talks and the signing of the treaty.
