New preliminary results: Kukuriku coalition wins 77 seats, HDZ 47

The centre-left coalition led by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) won 77 seats in the 151-seat parliament in Sunday's election, while the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and its coalition partners the Croatian Civic Party of Split Mayor Zeljko Kerum and the Democratic Centre (DC) gained 47 seats, according to incomplete results released by the State Election Commission at 2100 hours.

The Croatian Democratic Alliance of Slavonia and Baranja (HDSSB) and the Croatian Labour Party each won six seats, the Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) and the Independent List of retired Catholic priest Ivan Grubisic each captured two seats, while the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) Dr Ante Starcevic of Ruza Tomasic, the Pensioners Together/Primorje-Gorski Kotar Alliance/Croatian Workers’ Party bloc led by Ljubo Jurcic and the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) each won one seat.

A political party or coalition must win 76 seats in order to have a majority in parliament.
