Unemployment in Croatia will continue to grow until mid 2013 when this trend will be reduced, Labour and Pension System Minister Mirando Mrsic said on Tuesday, adding that by that time everything the government had been announcing, measured it had taken and the investment cycle would start functioning.

One should not expect major progress, because even when investments are launched it takes about six months for the results to be visible in reduction of the unemployment rate, but employment will go up, Mrsic told Croatian Television prime time news.

The problem is that every day more jobs are lost. In July and August when we employed 14 percent more people, it was still not sufficient to compensate for a large influx of people coming from universities, high schools as well as the private sector, the minister said.

He announced active measures in the employment policy aimed at enabling self-employment, namely measures that would enable young people to start their own business for only HRK750
