The European Commission is preparing a progress report on Croatia for this year as well "just in case", and if Zagreb concludes accession negotiations by the end of June, another document will be prepared, the deputy head of the European Union Delegation in Croatia, Paolo Berizzi, said on Thursday, as quoted by Croatian Television in its prime-time evening news programme.

Berizzi said that the report should be completed by mid-October.

If the negotiations finish before then, we will have to prepare another document. In any case, the Commission will take that into consideration. We have to start preparing it now. We cannot wait until then, he said.

Berizzi said that the preparation of the new progress report did not mean that Croatia would not wrap up the negotiations by the end of June, but that it could also happen later.

If it's not June, it will be months after June. Everything is possible, he said.
