The arrest of Bosnian Serb wartime military commander Ratko Mladic sparked rioting in the northern Serbian city of Novi Sad on Thursday evening, during which a Croatian flag was removed from the Serbian National Theatre, the local RTV television network said.

The rioting was caused by about 500 protesters who attempted to storm the RTV station and the offices of the Democratic Party in the city centre. Two demonstrators were injured in a clash with the police and several were detained.

Protesters also tried to remove a Bosnian flag from the theatre, but were prevented by the police.
