The European Commission has just proposed to close the last four chapters in the accession negotiations with Croatia, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said in a statement on Friday.
This paves the way for Croatia to join the European Union as the 28th member on 1 July 2013. The Council is now expected to accept this target day, Barroso said in his statement.
This is a historic day for Croatia and the European Union, he said among other things.
