Five leading trade union federations on Thursday urged the government to appoint the government's representatives to the Economic and Social Council (GSV), reminding Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic that they had sent a request to this effect to his cabinet on 28 December 2011.

"As the government did not do it at its previous session, we urge the cabinet to make appointments at today's session, so that the GSV can resume its work as soon as possible," the trade unions said in a press release.

Unionists criticise the new government of having implemented some legislative and other changes without a prior discussion on them at the GSV, which gathers representatives of the government, employers and unions.

"A democratically-oriented government discusses through tripartite dialogue the changes in societies which the authorities initiate and which have impact on citizens," reads the press release.
