The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) leader, Tomislav Karamarko, on Sunday said that following the news of the death of Parliament Speaker Boris Sprem today was a sad day and Sprem's passing was also a huge loss for the country.
On behalf of the HDZ party and on his own behalf, the opposition's leader offered condolences to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), SDP President Zoran Milanovic and to Sprem's family.
"The Croatian parliament has lost an extraordinary president, given that Sprem was an extraordinary jurist with the excellent knowledge of the parliament's procedures and good skills in chairing sessions," Karamarko said in his statement.
He went on to say that Sprem was his friend and that he had been delighted to hear that Sprem would be the speaker of the seventh national parliament.
