A few thousand protestors gathered in the capital of Ljubljana on Friday evening to once again protest against political elites and protests were held in several other cities throughout Slovenia. According to police reports, the demonstrations were peaceful and without any major incidents.

The protest rallies were organised through the Facebook social networking service this time just as they had been recently on several occasions in Maribor and other towns.

The anonymous organisers announced new rounds of protests, including a protest rally they are planning to hold on Saturday when the president-elect Borut Pahor is expected to take oath in the national parliament.

Over the last four weeks, similar protests were held in Ljubljana and Maribor against leading politicians, the crisis in Slovenian society and political corruption. However, these protesting groups have not assumed a clear political profile.

Nevertheless, Prime Minister Janez Jansa accuses the so-called old left-wing political elite of having manipulated the protesters in order to destabilise his cabinet that is conducting austerity measures which those circles find unacceptable.
